Aufgrund der belebten Plätze und Straßen mit schönen Straßencafés im Sommer sowie der großen Anzahl mittelalterlicher Kaufmannshäuser und Türme im italienischen Stil wird es manchmal als „nördlichste Stadt Italiens“ bezeichnet. Das historische Zentrum liegt neben der Donau und der Übergang über die mittelalterliche Steinbrücke in die Stadt bietet einen perfekten Zugang zur Stadt.
