About the destination: Bilbao is the capital of Biscay in the Basque Country, in northern Spain. The city is situated on the banks of the Nervión, a tidal river. Bilbao was till the 90s a grey big industrial town, the economical heart of the Basque Country. But since the opening of a new Guggenheim Museum by the river, the city has become an arty and stylish city and is now a major touristic destination. The main attraction that put Bilbao on the map was the construction of the Guggenheim Museum by Frank Gehry, it is now one of Spain’s most visited attractions. The building is impressive and there are some very interesting sculptures outside the museum and in the atrium. Centred on the Plaza Nueva, a busy and colourful square, and the Santiago Cathedral the old quarter of Bilbao is pretty compact and a walk around its streets doesn't take long. The impressive church of San Nicolas, built in 1743 in honour of the sailors from Bilbao, stands at the entrance to the Casco Viejo. Located in the very heart of Bilbao's old centre, the cathedral of Bilbao is the oldest church in the city and the main Gothic construction in Biscay. Vital and exciting Bilbao is famous for its great food, its culture and its active nightlife.

About the destination: Bathed by the waters of the Bay of Biscay, Ondarroa is located at the mouth of the Artibai River, on a very hilly terrain. It is located on the eastern end of the coast of Bizkaia and this stretch of coastline is formed by steep cliffs, among which stands out the so-called Peña del Fraile. The municipality, which apart from the urban nucleus counts on the neighborhoods of Rentería and Gorozika, has the sociological and cultural peculiarities of the Basque ports. At present, it is the new Itsasaurre bridge, designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava, which precisely facilitates direct access to the port. On the other hand, the old town is one of the most emblematic places of the town. With an unmistakable medieval flavor and sailor, there are narrow and steep streets in it. Going into them, we will come across the Old Bridge over the Artibai River. Also it is possible to emphasize in the same old part the Tower of Likona, of century XV. It is a classic border construction, one of the oldest in Euskadi. Very close we will find the church Andra Mari (1462), a Gothic work, carved in limestone and sandstone masonry, which stands out for the variety of windows, the finials of its buttresses and the rosette of its facade. The old City Hall is another building of interest, with a Tuscan facade very differentiated from the rest of the buildings of the town. However, for those who prefer a good swim, Ondarroa also has a beach, Arrigorri beach, from which you can access on foot to the neighboring beach of Saturraran, belonging to the town of Mutriku. As for the festivities, the festivities, "Andramaxak", take place from August 14 to 17, and begin with the descent of the popular character "Leokadi". The last day, called "Sailor's Day", is traditional for all attendees to wear the classic attire of the fishermen.

Known locally as the "flysch" they date from the mid-cretaceous period to the present, a time period of over 100 million years. The K-T boundary is present at the Itzurun beach, and fossils can be found, notably of ammonites. The strata stretches along a distance of about 8 km, between the towns/beaches of Deba and Getaria, with Zumaia lying in the middle.
